Contemplating the cosmos

Artist Statement
by Ashley Ravidas

Over the summer, I am lucky enough to be able to spend several weeks out in Palm Springs. During the summer, Palm Springs doesn’t get many visitors as it’s very hot in the desert that time of year. I don’t mind the heat and I love the quietness of the desert in the summer. It’s just me, the cicadas, and the endless sky.

This series is a contemplation on the sky. Of all the variations of blue that it can be during different times of day, depending on weather, with and without clouds and stars, at dawn, at dusk, at mid-day. It is a point, each year, that I am able to reflect on my place in the vastness of the universe. To consider if I am contributing to the world in a lasting way. To consider legacy and happiness and the fleeting nature of time. To be present in a single moment.

I hope this series serves as a moment for you, to be present and at peace.
